Artvigil 250 mg is a wakefulness promoting medication (eugeroic). It is used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness associated with Narcolepsy, Shift Worker Sleep Disorder and Sleep Apnea by stimulating the Central Nervous System to increase alertness. The active ingredient present in the formulation is Armodafinil. 

How does it work?

Armodacare 150 mg contains Armodafinil, which promotes wakefulness by affecting brain chemicals involved in regulating the sleep-wake cycle. It works by blocking the dopamine transporter (DAT), reducing the reuptake of dopamine and increasing its availability in the brain. An increase in dopamine levels helps improve alertness, focus and wakefulness. Armodafinil also activates orexin and histamine pathways which further helps maintain alertness throughout the day.

DOSAGE 

Usual adult dose for Narcolepsy
In Narcolepsy, dosage up to 250 mg is generally well-tolerated and it is usually taken once a day in the morning. 

Usual adult dose for Sleep apnea
In Sleep apnea, dosage up to 250 mg is generally well-tolerated and it is usually taken once a day in the morning.

Usual adult dose for Shift Worker Sleep Disorder
It is usually taken one hour prior to the shift begins.

• Decreased efficacy of medications
  Hormonal contraceptives: Artvigil can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, implants or patches. This interaction can persist for up to a month after taking Artvigil.
  Cyclosporine: Artvigil may reduce the effectiveness of Cyclosporine, a medication that is used to prevent organ rejection in transplant patients.

• CNS Stimulants and Substances
  Alcohol: Combining alcohol with Artvigil can alter the effects of medications and also increase the risk of side effects.
  Caffeine & Energy Drinks: Co-administering Artvigil with excessive caffeine can increase the risk of palpitations, nervousness, etc.

• Severe Interactions
  Taking Artvigil with or within 14 days of using MAO inhibitors e.g. Linezolid, Isocarboxazid can lead to severe cardiovascular or hypertensive reactions.
